A mid-Michigan “Lifer”


Walt Sorg arrived in mid-Michigan (from suburban Chicago) in September, 1966, a 17-year-old freshman at Michigan State University. Within two years he was an award-winning broadcast journalist, beginning as news director of WITL AM-FM in Lansing. He was twice named the outstanding radio reporter in outstate Michigan by the Associated Press Broadcasters Association. He was also a news producer with the CBS-TV affiliate in Detroit, and a reporter for both WJIM TV (now WLNS TV) and WILX TV in Lansing.


Walt’s first appearance on network television came in 1953 as a member of the ‘Peanut Gallery’ on the Howdy Doody TV show. His first paid appearances on the networks came in 1968, covering the presidential campaign of Michigan Governor George Romney for both NBC radio and the Mutual Broadcasting System.


His career has also included stints in:

    * State government, as press secretary for the Speaker of the House, and

       public affairs chief for the Blanchard economic development team

    * Communications Counseling, consulting to Fortune 100 companies, state

       associations and government agencies

    * Independent production of syndicated TV programs, including

       The Michigan Gourmet (PBS) and The George Perles Show

    * The State Bar of Michigan as Assistant Executive Director-Media

    * Business services and identity theft specialist as an independent associate

       of Pre-Paid Legal Services


Walt is married to Megan, and the proud stepfather of two beautiful, happy, intelligent and well-adjusted young women, Liz and Alison.
